Search for lost wife attracts fraudsters

A distraught husband was defrauded of 300 yuan ($45) by a stranger who claimed to know the whereabouts of his missing wife. Gong Junan, 48, took his wife — who suffers from depression — to see a health specialist in Xi’an in March, but she disappeared after going to use a public toilet. Gong said she did not have her phone or ID card. He later began receiving messages from strangers saying they knew his wife’s whereabouts. He gave one of them money in exchange for information, but this turned out to be a scam. Gong’s wife remains missing.
