Tsunami rem­nants in­clude porce­lain

Rem­nants of a tsunami that hit the shore of the is­land of Nan’ao, off Guangdong prov­ince, 1,000 years ago have at­tracted ar­chae­o­log­i­cal in­ter­est with the dis­cov­ery of a large amount of porce­lain de­bris. Ac­cord­ing to re­search into the tsunami rem­nants led by the Univer­sity of Science and Tech­nol­ogy of China and East China Nor­mal Univer­sity, the sed­i­men­tary sec­tion on the shore of Nan’ao con­tains stone mor­tars and porce­lain pieces dat­ing to the Song Dy­nasty (960-1279).
