According to the Eighth Annual Conference of Philanthropy China held in Beijing on Monday, the online donations received by some charity organizations account for more than 80 percent of their overall donations.

According to the China Provincial Charity Policy Innovation Index issued by China Philanthropy Research Institute of Beijing Normal University on Dec 17, 12 internet donation platforms designated by the Ministry of Civil Affairs received donations of more than 2.5 billion yuan ($370 million) in 2017.

Gao Xiaobing, vice-minister of civil affairs, said China has developed “internet plus charity” through advanced internet technologies including big data and cloud computing, and it has encouraged people to participate in charity causes, improved the management of charity organizations and promoted the openness and transparency of the charity industry.

Gao said that in the next stage the Ministry of Civil Affairs will further implement the Charity Law, improve management regulations for charity organizations and charitable trusts, enhance service and supervision of internet donation information platforms, and promote the implementation of favorable policies related to charity work.

As of Jan 11, there were more than 810,000 social organizations registered in the country, 5,355 registered charitable organizations, and more than 400 registered foreign NGOs.
