Lin Lan, 73, isn’t really sure how social media works, but she is one of its stars. Videos of her cooking traditiona­l Chinese dishes with her daughter Lisa have gone viral. Lin has become an online mother figure and cooking teacher for thousands of young people. Lisa takes her mother’s recipes, which often have a dozen spices and other hard-to-find ingredient­s, and adjusts them for her followers. “I’m targeting an audience that isn’t my mom, but people like me who grew up with these foods but don’t necessaril­y know how to cook them,” Lisa told The Washington Post.

George Clooney returns to TV with Catch-22

George Clooney will return to TV for the first time in 20 years with an adaptation of the classic novel Catch-22, and said on Monday the Hulu series set in World War II aims to tell a timeless story about the insanity of war. Clooney said he was drawn in because the writers “did an amazing job unspooling these characters” for the six-episode series that will be released on Hulu on May 17.
