Rio de Janeiro to hold 27th World Congress of Architects in summer
The 27th World Congress of Architects to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in July is set to attract professionals and future leaders in architecture and related fields from across the world to discuss cities of the future.
Rio will hold more than 100 academic events from March to July, with virtual sessions from March onward and in-person activities running from July 18 to 22. All events will be broadcast live over the internet to delegates around the world.
This year’s congress will have four central thematic lines — diversity and mixture, changes and emergencies, vulnerabilities and inequalities, and transience and flows.
The congress’ four central thematic lines define the concepts, around which all the conferences, roundtables, exhibits, workshops and other events will be grouped by affinity, with all activities thematically interconnected, said Elisabete Franca, who is organizing the preparatory work on the Declaration of the 27th World Congress of Architects.
The congress is hosted by the International Union of Architects, also known as the UIA, every three years.
Roberto Simon, the UIA vice-president, said that architects from every continent should gather together to share experiences of constructing the spaces where social life takes place. “As the global health crisis continues, architects, engineers and designers must put their experience, technical capacities, and research skills together in the service of the fight against coronavirus,” he said.
It is the first time for the congress, which was first organized in 1948, to be held in Brazil.
