The low-carbon energy and environmental technology subsection within the Intelligent Industry and Information Technology exhibition area of the fourth China International Import Expo, which is upgraded from the energy conservation and environmental protection subsection from last year’s CIIE, will help China’s low-carbon transformation.

Liu Fuxue, deputy director-general of the CIIE Bureau, said during a promotional event on Tuesday that the upgraded subsection will have a planned exhibition area of more than 11,000 square meters based on the theme “Lowcarbon development; Green economic recovery”. Nearly 50 leading industry players, including Siemens Energy, Vestas and HST Systemtechnik, have signed up to participate.

Tian Ye, head of Intelligent Industry and Information Technology exhibition area, said the subsection will feature “a larger scale, extended product offerings and more supporting programs”. The subsection will be a gathering hub for enterprises along the industrial chain.

“The annual CIIE is a strategic platform set to serve China’s national strategies and promote the development of the country’s green economy,” Liu said. “It is taking responsibility in supporting the country’s goal to peak carbon emissions (before 2030) and achieve carbon neutrality (before 2060). The subsection will boost the awareness of the CIIE as a professional trading platform while gathering premium resources from across the globe to support China’s industrial upgrade. It is of great significance to promoting environmental protection and green transformation in China.”

A special committee dedicated to supporting low-carbon development and green economic recovery in China after the epidemic is being planned in hopes of luring relevant enterprises to seize business opportunities in China, Liu said.

Eight special committees of the expo across different sectors of public health and pandemic prevention, dairy, industrial digital transformation, auto innovative development, smart supply chain, daily consumer products, sports and agricultural products have been launched since the beginning of 2020.

China has made reducing energy consumption per unit of GDP by about 3 percent as one of its main targets for 2021. The country plans to cut energy consumption per unit of GDP by 13.5 percent and carbon dioxide emissions by 18 percent during the 14th FiveYear Plan period (2021-25). The subsection will strengthen communication among top industry players and make the most of enterprises’ insights on China.

Alfa Laval, a global heat transfer, separation and fluid handling solution provider, will participate in the 2021 edition for the first time. It has signed up to be a part of the low-carbon energy and environmental technology subsection.

“Energy saving and low-carbon emissions are part of Alfa Laval’s DNA. We will take advantage of the CIIE platform to seize opportunities in China,” said Li Bin, Alfa Laval China’s vice-president and general manager of its energy division. “Alfa Laval will continue to strengthen technological innovations to support industrial sustainable development as well as China’s goal to peak carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality.”

Shen Kai, Siemens Energy’s general manager of the east region, said the company will continue to support the subsection’s construction in 2021.

“We are looking forward to joining hands with more relevant parties to promote energy transformation in the global market,” Shen said.

Apart from optimizing the subsection, the CIIE is creating new subsections for the 2021 edition to serve changing industrial demand. A subsection for integrated circuit exhibitors within the Intelligent Industry and Information Technology exhibition area was revealed on Dec 16. Leading industry players including United States-based chip maker Qualcomm have signed up to participate in the subsection, according to the CIIE Bureau.

Liu said the integrated circuit subsection will strengthen business exchanges and cooperation between domestic and international companies in the industry. It will further enhance service standards at the annual event and gather global resources to build an integrated circuit industrial chain in China.

The 2021 CIIE, set to run from Nov 5 to 10 in Shanghai, will host a continuous business exhibition, a country exhibition, the Hongqiao International Economic Forum and an array of supporting activities.

The planned space of the business exhibition is 360,000 sq m and it will have six exhibition areas: food and agricultural products, automobiles, intelligent industry and information technology, consumer goods, medical equipment and healthcare products, as well as trade in services.

CIIE organizers said the overall exhibition plan has obtained approval from the central government.

The first list of exhibitors to participate in the 2021 CIIE was released on March 10 at a conference attended by members of the fourth CIIE Enterprise Alliance.
