A new tablet recently launched by tech giant Huawei Technologies, along with a high-tech pen and a brand-new smart magnetic keyboard, may surprise users with new tech experiences.

HUAWEI MatePad Pro 12.6-inch is powered by HarmonyOS 2, which was released online on June 2.

This new operating system supports multiscreen collaboration among Huawei’s tablets, smartphones and personal computers.

Expanding your creativity

HUAWEI MatePad Pro has always been thought of as a symbol of productivity and creativity, insiders said.

Featuring a 12.6-inch OLED full-view display with a superb 90 percent screen-tobody ratio, HUAWEI MatePad Pro presents a borderless world of incredible color and clarity.

Equipped with a Kirin 9000 processor that was designed in-house, HUAWEI MatePad Pro facilitates the creative work of different artists. The tablet can be used for drawing, designing, film editing and even make animations with Huawei M-Pencil 2nd generation.

The company said it believes creation is everyone’s inborn capability and the mission of MatePad Pro is to help inspire that capability. Led by this vision, the tablet has become one of the most popular tools for creating among customers.

Huawei’s MatePad offers diverse drawing software, such as SketchBook, Zen Brush and Tayasui Sketches, design software including Canva, editing software and animation making software FlipaClip.

To improve the user experience of the new product, engineers from Huawei have adjusted its screen.

The screen can perform as a professional display in terms of the gap between real color and presentation color.

That feature can help users avoid being distraction while creating.

The screen can also function as an onsite monitoring screen for directors and photographers, the company said.

Huawei launched the in-house chip Kirin 9000 series, which is called “the most sophisticated 5-nanometer” 5G system on chips available.

The chips are fully equipped for 5G, capable of handling intensive computations and multitasking operations with ease.

Thanks to the Kirin 9000 chipset, HUAWEI MatePad Pro presents greatly improved performance and elevated energy efficiency.

Experiencing a masterstroke

Both professional artists and amateurs including children can use MatePad Pro to enjoy their creative work, thanks in part to Huawei M-Pencil 2nd generation.

The pen has a stylish platinum finish on its clad layer, which looks professional and can improve its durability, according to the company.

It can carry out systematic handwriting, which means users can write in any input box and the handwriting can be changed into text in real time.

He Gang, chief operating officer of Huawei’s customer business group, said at the tablet’s launch event that by double-tapping the body of the pen instead of the bottom tool bar, users can switch between brush and eraser functions.

If they draw a form in the memorandum, the tablet can automatically adjust handwriting lines into straight lines and put handwriting words outside the form back into it.

The functions are included in Huawei’s Pencil Engine, an algorithm opened to global application developers last September. It is the soul of Huawei’s M-Pencil, the company said.

It involves functions such as the brush effect and double clicking the pen to switch functions, or “double-tap to switch”.

It can offer four brush effects — ballpoint pens, pens, pencils and markers — five font-weight choices and 130 different colors.

It also has a prediction algorithm that can reduce handwriting delays by about 18 milliseconds.

Pencil Engine has been applied to several applications including note applications such as Jnotes and Nebo, creation applications such as Huion Sketch and office applications including WPS and MindMaster.

Executives from Huawei said they believe more excellent applications will use Pencil Engine and offer customers a better handwriting experience in the near future.

Increasing your productivity

MatePad Pro is the first tablet in the world to use HarmonyOS 2. Fluency, interface design and notification services have improved greatly in the product.

This new operating system also supports tablet to PC multi-screen collaboration capabilities: mirror mode, extend mode, and collaborate mode.

The screen image on a computer can be copied onto the tablet and it can become a digital panel for painters.

He said that many people use an external display for computers to facilitate their daily work.

In extend mode, the tablet can become a second display for computers. Any content on the two displays can be copied and pasted.

Collaborate mode breaks the barrier between HarmonyOS and Windows operating systems for the first time.

Customers can use the mouse of computers to drag text, pictures and documents across the systems, which simplifies the transmission process.

The collaboration between Huawei cellphones and tablets can also benefit creators. They can use phones to take pictures, finish cutouts and pass them to the tablets for further creation, He said.

The Huawei MatePad products have formed a well-established system, satisfying many needs of different people.

MatePad Pro series has two sizes, with diagonal measurements of 10.8 and 12.6 inches.

MatePad 11 launched on July 6 mainly focuses on students and people who just started working while MatePad 10.4 is catered on the education market. Huawei’s classic tablet MediaPad M6 focuses on audio and video entertainment, which is appropriate for all age groups.
