China has made great achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of China with General Secretary Xi Jinping at its core, and it has become the “locomotive” of human development, senior Russian officials said.

Ivan Melnikov, first vice-chairman of Russia’s State Duma and vice-chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, or CPRF, hailed the success of the 20th National Congress of the CPC when participating in a conference at the Chinese embassy in Moscow last week.

Melnikov said China has made achievements that have drawn admiration from around the world, enabled by the leadership of the CPC with General Secretary Xi at the core. China has solved the problem of absolute poverty and lifted from poverty 850 million people — a figure that is 100 million more than the population of Europe.

“I believe the CPC will be able to lead 1.4 billion Chinese people to achieve the second centennial goal as scheduled,” he said.

In terms of foreign policy, China takes an independent and peaceful stance, he said. The CPC maintains friendly relations with more than 600 political parties and organizations from more than 170 countries.

China has put forward the Belt and Road Initiative to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and is committed to friendly cooperation with countries around the world, Melnikov added.

He said Russia and China have the same or similar positions on major international and regional issues, and both firmly maintain the international system with the United Nations as the core and the international order based on international law.

“The Russian side is willing to continue to strengthen strategic mutual trust with China, promote the in-depth docking between the Eurasian Economic Union and the BRI, promote pragmatic cooperation in various fields, and jointly build a fairer and more reasonable international political and economic order,” he said.

Dmitry Novikov, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said China has become the “locomotive” of human development.

He said China’s development experience has become of universal significance and is worthy of research and study.

Important milestone

Novikov said the 20th National Congress of the CPC is an important milestone in the development of China and the world, as it summarizes the development experience of the Communist Party of China over the past 100 years.

“Most importantly, the event has strengthened the Party’s leadership, after Xi’s reelection as general secretary of the Party, which is the strongest guarantee to ensure the Party’s line and policy are unshakable,” Novikov said.

Novikov, who is also a vicechairman of the CPRF, said the party is willing to continuously strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the CPC, and jointly promote the continuous development of the Sino-Russian comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era.

Denis Kravchenko, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, congratulated the CPC on the success of the 20th National Congress. On behalf of the United Russia party, he hailed the development of relations between China and Russia and the mutual trust that they enjoy.

Alexey Chepa, the deputy of A Just Russia — For Truth party in the State Duma, said history has proved the CPC is a great political force that has changed not only China but also the world.

In the report to the 20th National Congress, Xi proposed the establishment of a new type of international relations based on mutual respect, fairness and justice, which once again proves the vision of the Chinese leader and his deep insights into the global process, Chepa said.
