Carpenters Workshop Gallery: Contemporary Design Icons
Punctuated by illuminating essays from curator Natalie Kovacs, renowned trend forecaster and Dean of Hybrid Studies at Parsons School of Design Lidewij Edelkoort, and Design Museum director Deyan Sudjic, this work is as much a history of the Carpenters Workshop Gallery as it is an ode to the creative process, to which the gallery’s founders are self-confessed addicts.
In their manifesto, Julien Lombrail and Loïc Le Gaillard define their own truth: ‘every piece must seduce both of us, stirring every atom of our minds and senses with an overwhelming desire to touch and caress it, providing a total and intense experience.’ It’s this intensity that sets the tone for the rest of the book, which chronicles the gallery’s most significant exhibitions before becoming a collective portfolio for the pre-eminent designers CWG has represented over the last thirteen years, among them Atelier Van Lieshout, Nacho Carbonell, nendo, Wonmin Park, Maarten Baas, Studio Drift, Sebastian Brajkovic, Vladimir Kagan, Rick Owens, Studio Job and many more.
