Weaving: Contemporary Makers on the Loom
The world is experiencing a renaissance of craft and maker culture, with an emphasis on the creators and provenance of items, and projects undertaken to preserve and revive ancient techniques.
In this context, experienced craft and design journalist Katie Treggiden has compiled this work featuring 21 weavers from around the world. A chapter on each includes a short text, quotes from the weaver describing their approach, and a selection of project and studio photos.
There are also five complementary and substantial essays that cover the basic craft of weaving as well as its philosophy and expression of current issues, including gender, migration and futures. The book’s matte stock provides a subdued touch and reflects the textural medium.
