The nomenclature of Inner Circle, acclaimed Dutch designer Maarten Baas’s new range of tableware for valerie_objects, was derived from the name given to the chosen few that we dine with regularly — and the concept also became the collection’s leitmotif. ‘I discovered that all tableware items consist of circles within circles,’ Baas explains. ‘At the same time, the circle is considered the most perfect symmetric shape. I played with that notion and drew spontaneous, far-from-perfect circles with a pencil.’ The collection exemplifies the designer’s penchant and talent for creating playful objects.
