Vincenzo De Cotiis: Works
Since opening his studio in 1997, Milanese architect and artist Vincenzo De Cotiis has become known for both his interior projects, in which older buildings are often stripped back to reveal their roots and the patina of time, and for the one-off design objects he creates, which are marked by a similar approach and by their Italian craft and materials. Despite this compelling portfolio, Works is the first monograph on De Cotiis, and presents a coherent narrative of his work to date.
Chapters focus on the process and materials that are central to De Cotiis’s work, and on his objects themselves. The photography highlights the materiality, and particularly striking are the images of the designer’s pieces in grand, romantically decaying spaces. A sketchbook and press clippings are included, as is an appendix of works. The introduction by design historian Anne Bony combines with essays by Design Academy Eindhoven creative director Joseph Grima and design editor Tom Delavan to provide further insight.
