The Reinvention of Forms
by Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen (Étui Editions)
Partner at Norm Architects and passionate photographer Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen once worked for an architect who was obsessed with the sphere and its perfect symmetry. This made Bjerre-Poulsen also conscious of the shape's occurrence in his surroundings, and he now views it philosophically, as an ‘image that could be used to understand life.'
The book explores the sphere motif, its black and white imagery demonstrating how Bjerre-Poulsen fragments and reimagines the world around him. Bodies, architecture and nature enter into fragmented dialogue with the shape, presented lavishly in large format on high-quality art stock. Context is provided via contributions by friends and collaborators, including an introduction by Finnish architect Juhani Pallasmaa, a whimsical fictional piece by prize-winning Danish author Thomas Rydahl and a Q&A in which Bjerre-Poulsen details his thinking on the shape that forms the heart of the work.
