Design Anthology - Asia Pacific Edition
Works — Mim Design
(Untitled Press)
Australian interior designer Miriam ‘ Mim’ Fanning established Mim Design in Melbourne in 2000, and has produced this work to commemorate the studio’s first 21 years. Fanning, whose projects have featured in Design Anthology, is known for her elevated taste, and the 13 residential projects presented in this book span contemporary architecture and historic homes, all graced by Mim Design’s clean, elegant aesthetic. Each project is presented editorially, with a reflection by Fanning and images that are given space to breathe. There is a beautiful use of space, light, subtle shading and texture, both in the projects and in the selected imagery by leading Australian photographers including Tom Blachford, Sharyn Cairns, Sean Fennessy and Derek Swalwell.
While the studio’s focus is interiors, exterior photography is not neglected; the book shows some spectacular sites, particularly those on Australia’s vast coastline. It also features a foreword by design author Karen McCartney, who contributes additional essays on the studio’s approach, and conversations between Fanning and regular collaborators Grazia & Co and Behruz Studio.
