Flourish: Design Paradigms for Our Planetary Emergency
Post-pandemic design has been a hot topic for some time, as the ‘new normal' and the role of design in engineering a new paradigm for living come into focus. Now, urbanist, strategist and Design Anthology contributor Sarah Ichioka and co-author Michael Pawlyn, an architect known for his work in regenerative design and biomimicry, add their own contribution to the discourse.
In producing Flourish, the authors have digested a wide variety of cultural perspectives and research, synthesising and building on them to form a clear and coherent thesis based on five principles, each accompanied by graphics and examples of how they can be achieved with existing or nearterm methods. ‘It's clear that the majority of our elected and corporate leaders, and our conventional approaches to sustainability, have failed,' says Ichioka. ‘We wrote Flourish to refocus on a positive course of action, calling upon each of us to contribute to the transformation necessary for a thriving planet for all.'
