Paul Matter

Commissioned by Galerie Philia for an exhibition at Unité d’Habitation in Marseille looking at the work and influence of Le Corbusier, New Delhi-based Paul Matter’s Envol lamp series draws inspiration from the architect’s work in Chandigarh and his Open Hand Monument. The oversized lamp is made from burnt brass, patinated iron and blown glass, and is able to rotate 180 degrees. Symbolising openness, the design is ambitious and unrestrained though carefully considered, and succeeds in being both referential and timeless.
