Shared Spaces:

A coworking space open to students for study

-

The rise in the coworking concept in Hong Kong has been astounding over the past five years. Even big multinationals like HSBC are nestled into shared spaces across the city. They’ve become both functional and fashionable for everyone from small businesses to major corporations.

This growth has been partly fuelled by the start-up community here, not to mention the city’s unforgiving commercial rental rates. The scene has been a big part of the recent evolution of Hong Kong’s identity as a great place to do business for innovative companies.

Now, coworking spaces are having an evolution all their own, to also become a place where students are spending time studying after school. As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention, and as our homes are getting smaller, teenagers with big study commitments and a yearning for independence are finding a quiet space and new study buddies at places like The HQ Cowork.

“We created our study corner and opened the space for homework afternoons because we know teenagers in Kennedy Town need a place to study,” says FRANCIS LI from The HQ Cowork. “Teenagers from age 14 can come and study from 4 to 6pm, and we provide drinks and snacks. It’s a place where they can get some work done and hang out with kids from other schools.”

The HQ Cowork is right above Kennedy Town MTR and offers a more casual vibe than other similar spaces. It’s been beautifully designed by the team at Lift Lifestyle and is now home to small businesses from the IT sector, trading, media, design and creative industries. What’s more, the team have differentiated themselves from other coworking spaces by offering a lower price point and part-time packages for mumprenuers.
