Hungry Ghost Festival
(15 AUG)
According to the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the origin of the Hungry Ghost Festival is not unlike Halloween in Europe – it’s also intrinsically linked to the Chinese practice of ancestor worship. They add: “For visitors, it’s the perfect opportunity to see some of the city’s living culture in action, with many people tending to roadside fires and burning faux money and other offerings for ghosts and ancestors to use in the afterlife.”
