Hospital Help:
Why women choose Matilda
On Christmas Day in 1858, Granville Sharpe and Matilda Lincolne arrived in Hong Kong; originally from England, they'd recently married in India. Over the next 30 years, they made HK their home; Granville worked in banking and real estate, while Matilda dedicated herself to helping widows and orphans in the community. When Matilda died of pneumonia at age 64, a heartbroken Granville put the remains of his estate in trust for the construction of a hospital to be built in her memory for the benefit, care and happiness of the patients.
