Dr Lee’s 7 tips for good oral hygiene
#1 Brush twice daily; spit rather than rinse out, and don’t brush too hard. An electric toothbrush is better.
#2 Clean your teeth interdentally by flossing or using interdental brushes. Do this daily at night time, to get rid of bacteria between your teeth. These are the sites that normal brushing can’t reach.
#3 Use mouthwash for antibacterial properties and a nicer fresher taste.
#4 Follow general dietary advice by reducing the frequency and amount of sugar you consume.
#5 Chewing gum can help in some instances to neutralise acid content.
#6 It’s best not to brush your teeth straight after eating food; this is especially so if you have an acidic diet – fruit, salad dressings, carbonated drinks and so on.
#7 Have a biannual check-up to assess your oral health.
