FOREWORD

Technological advancements in golf equipment, from the advent of the metalwood to the huge strides made in golf ball tech, have definitely made golf more appealing and easier for weekend hackers such as myself. The current rate of development of golf related gear has progressed so much that the promise of more forgiveness, more accuracy and ease of launching the golf ball more efficiently, is no longer just a fable or marketing spin. This high-tech evolution had provided a glimmer of hope to all amateur golfers, no matter how faint it may be, that we may be able to replicate some shots we see on the Pro tours at least once over a round. It has been a long while since I tried a persimmon driver and a balata golf ball, and it is an experience that is firmly etched in my mind. I struggled with them and I was only too happy to switch back to modern equipment. So when folks such as Tiger Woods suggest that the golf industry should do something to limit the distance of golf balls, I’m not sure I’m for the idea, perhaps we should look at different golf balls for the Pros and amateurs instead. And if we start with golf balls, there will be others advocating a rollback of tech for golf clubs as well; such decisions may also impact the growth and take-up rate of golf amongst millennials.
