The N01 Chair

Designed in collaboration with Japanese design studio Nendo

-

W. Atelier, together with The Republic of Fritz Hansen, have unveiled the N01, a gorgeous wooden chair designed in collaboration with Japanese design studio Nendo, in Singapore. Created with the best of Danish and Japanese aesthetics and purity, N01 brings back nature and embraces the essence of timeless wood craftsmanship. Nendo represents a design language that both complements the Fritz Hansen design DNA and at the same time challenges it with a new take on working with genuine

craftsmanship, the result is the N01.

Japanese and Danish design traditions have a lot in common and the N01, which is both minimalist in look and highly detailed in design, is a sublime example of this. The N01 is a very honest design that tells the story of the warmth of wood and of uncompromising quality. Its light expression is serene and seductive, and its construction is clever and crafted with Japanese perfectionism. N01 combines a seat and a back in nine layers of veneer, characteristic of the Fritz Hansen stacking chair collection, while the base is a pure and elegant interpretation of working with solid wood.

The creation of the chair required meticulous attention to construction, as every detail fits together as a seamless puzzle. Made of 23 pieces of wood and veneer, the chair is hand-assembled using wood from a Belgian familyowned wood manufacturer founded in 1924. Priority was given in the design to maintain the noiseless and sleek appearance of the chair while ensuring immense strength and stability to last for generations. For example, the joint sections are designed to look as if they are touching each other as little as possible and this is only made possible with precise attention to detail in the assembly process.

N01 is available in three colours, Black Oak, Natural Oak and Beech, with optional seat cushions in fabric or leather. www.watelier.com
