NYC & Company, New York City’s official destination marketing organization, celebrated the opening of its new outpost in Singapore to stimulate travel from the Southeast Asia region. In 2017, New York City welcomed approximately 227,000 visitors from this part of the world, with 46,000 from Vietnam; 63,000 from the Philippines; 43,000 from Singapore; 33,000 from Indonesia; 19,000 from Malaysia; and 23,000 from Thailand.

“Today we are pleased to open our newest international tourism outpost in Singapore, serving the Southeast Asia region. Given the region’s considerable tourism growth and the launch of two new non-stop flights from the region to New York

City, the opportunity was right to establish a more formal marketing and promotional presence here. We are delighted to be the first US city to commence a dedicated focus in the Southeast Asia region,” said NYC & Company’s President and CEO Mr Fred Dixon.

Mr Dixon hosted 70 movers and shakers from the travel trade and media to a New York themed celebration at Marina Bay Sands’ DB Bistro & Oyster Bar, the Singapore outpost of New York City-based French celebrity chef Daniel Boulud.

Guests answered questions tied in with major developments and openings for 2019, an indispensable year to visit New York City as seen through its “2019 – A Monumental Year” campaign, and stood a chance to win the grand prize of a trip to New York City, which included a pair of return Premium Economy air tickets from Singapore to New York, sponsored by Singapore Airlines (SIA), and presented by Mr Adrian Chua, Marketing Communications Manager, Singapore Sales. It was won by Mr Jeremiah Lim, CEO of Sunway Travel Sdn Bhd.

As part of the grand prize, Mr Jeremiah Lim also received hotel stays, tickets to Frozen the musical, a Broadway show, and the Empire State building. These were sponsored by partners of NYC & Company, who that week, attended ITB Asia, Asia’s leading travel trade show.
