Singapore Cancer Society Charity Golf

-

Over $470,000 was raised through a Charity Golf & Dinner event that took place on 2 November at the Singapore Island Country Club, in support of Singapore Cancer Society (SCS). Guest-of-honour Mr Edwin Tong, Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Law & Ministry of Health, graced the event that saw over 280 donors came forward to contribute towards the fight against cancer.

“With rising cancer incidence, more can be done with stronger support from the community. SCS will be making significant advancements in increasing our capacity and capability to serve those impacted by cancer in the coming years. The tremendous support from the organisers and the participants for this event is a strong testament to our message that no one needs to walk the cancer journey alone,” said Albert Ching, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Cancer Society.

All 36 golf flight packages were snapped up in support of the committee’s efforts to raise funds for the cancer beneficiaries, and the event was made possible by 3 volunteers who had been impacted by cancer through their own personal experiences. Ms Amberly Woo (who had lost her daughter to cancer) and Ms Angie Gui (breast cancer survivor) and Ms Dora Tuana Tan came together and organize the charity golf event to support SCS.

The charity golf fund raising event was mooted by Ms Tan who herself made a very generous donation of $1million to the Singapore Cancer Society for the establishment of an endowment fund, the purpose of which is to support the Society in their mission of minimising cancer and maximising lives. A symbolic cheque was presented during the dinner.

In a poignant moment honouring those whose lives have been directly or indirectly touched by cancer, organising chairperson Amberly Woo led the entire ballroom in the breaking and waving of lightsticks accompanied by the singing of ‘I Will Always Love You’.

Also gracing the evening’s dinner was award winning actress Rebecca Lim, who herself volunteers as goodwill ambassador for SCS. And if laughter is the best medicine, then comedian Kumar must surely have brought some healing judging from the laughter heard.
