Vijay’s Nine Wins

-

It ranks only tied-fifth in the record-books – behind Byron Nelson’s 18 in 1945, Ben Hogan’s 13 in 1946, Sam Snead’s 11 in 1950 and Hogan’s 10 in 1948 – and Tiger Woods’ nine wins in 2000 is more famous and certainly more iconic. But Vijay Singh’s nine PGA Tour victories in 2004, as well as two runners-up spots and one thirdplace finish, must rank as one of the most remarkable feats in modern golf. Not only did the then 40-yearold Fijian display incredible consistency – he missed only one cut in 29 appearances – his nine triumphs came in the middle of what history will surely come to call the Tiger Era.

There is, however, but one slight caveat. Of Singh’s nine wins, only three came in events where Woods was present. Still pretty good though, in a season worth a cool $10,905,166.
