PGA Party Time
The Phoenix Open – known at various times as the Western Open, Arizona Open, Ben Hogan Invitational, FBR Open, and the Waste management Phoenix Open – was first staged in 1932 and played at Phoenix Country Club and
later the Arizona Country Club. In 1987, it moved to its permanent home at the fanfriendly TPC Scottsdale and has never looked back. Now it is the best-attended tournament on the PGA Tour. In 2018 a record 719,179
fans were in attendance, many drawn to the infamous ‘party hole’ 16th. A genius masterstroke in modernising the game or a terrifying, booze-sodden vision of the game’s future? That’s a mighty fine line.
