After visiting several major cities around the world this past year, Singapore played host to the Breguet Classic Tour, introducing the contemporary Breguet gentleman who is elegant and detailed, just like a Breguet watch.

Breguet recently welcomed collectors, VIP clients, business partners and journalists to take a gentleman’s journey into The House; within were Kevin Seah Bespoke tailor, Truefitt & Hill (the oldest grooming service in the world) and La Maison du Whisky, each of whom introduced various facets of craftsmanship.

In watchmaking, An engine-turned dial is a true work of art. Smooth to start with, the dial plate is first worked with a hand graver to outline and hollow out areas reserved for such indications as the power reserve, the moon phase, and the subdial for the seconds and others. Today, Breguet craftsmen continue to use engine-turning lathes designed and built over a century ago. Precise to a tenth of a millimeter, intricate patterns are engraved and from start to finish, engine-turning depends solely on the craftsman’s sharp eye and steady hand. On the occasion of Breguet’s Classic Tour, guests were invited to experience a dial engraving with a guillochage machine.

After a 15-year career in haute couture, Kevin Seah, founder of Kevin Seah Bespoke, is considered a premier modern tailor and luxury men’s outfitter since his establishment in 2009. Catering to each client’s individual needs and tastes, Kevin Seah Bespoke specialises in design savvy tailoring; balancing classic elegance and contemporary comfort, with a unique expertise in creating sartorial garments suited to life in the tropics.

Premier quality and bespoke service since 1805, such is Truefitt & Hill. They have been catering to the exacting standards of London’s gentry ever since vanity and good grooming have been the essential mark of a gentleman. Truefitt & Hill enjoys a reputation as a world-renowned barbershop offering an extensive range of treatments and service to groom a gentlemen to perfection.

The craftsmanship experience continued with the introduction of a blend of rum from a Jamaican distillery that is the only one of its kind. For rum enthusiasts, Hampden is anything but a common name. “Rum receiving the world’s highest praise was distilled in Jamaica for centuries past. And for 275 years, demand was such that Hampden did not have time to produce their own.” explained Matthieu Musnier, General Manager of La Maison du Whisky. It was not until the unveiling of their first bottlings in 2018, that guests were privileged enough to savour Hampden’s rum here in Singapore, courtesy of Breguet’s “Classic Tour”.
