Make Your Golf Great Again

-

Traditionally, this is the time of the year when golf equipment manufacturers roll out their line up in time for the start of the Tour season. And it’s astonishing how the latest in golf clubs these days are anything but traditional, with algorithm calculated super tight tolerances and resin injected club faces, it definitely takes a rocket scientist to engineer a golf club these days, and more… since technology alone doesn’t a successful driver make. One of the biggest names in golf, Taylormade, was the upstart back in 1979 when they introduced the concept of the oxymoronic metalwood driver they cheekily labelled as made of Pittsburgh Persimmon. Back then, it was Macgregor that was “The greatest name in golf”, with the dominant technology being either tight grained persimmon blocks or laminated maplewood heads, onto which were screwed on metal sole plates and Cycolac Eye-o-matic inserts. And as surely as the the greatest name in golf is no more, why do we continue to hang to a dated driver from eons back? Yes, there was a time not too long ago when there was much smoke and mirrors as technology and marketing started to swirl into a murky mix from which consumers were left spinning from the hype. Yet if 2019’s new equipment releases are any indication so far, the science of golf is savvy again. Distance and dispersion were once like oil and water, now we’re hearing the words ‘fast’ and ‘accurate’ in the same sentence. So if your sticks are anything past two generations old, it may be time to reward yourself as the big boys in golf shoehorn all their latest and greatest into clubs aimed squarely at super serving you the consumer. And go the extra mile, if you want your ball to go that extra mile. Get fitted and you’ll squeeze out every ounce of performance from your clubs.
