VERDICT The G425 Max was eight yards further back down the fairway than our longest forgiving driver, Callaway’s Epic 21 Max. But such headlinegrabbing numbers don’t tell the real story. The Ping also gave the smallest carry distance drop off (seven yards), which means it will be incredibly forgiving and consistent on the course. A full titanium head (many brands now prefer carbon fibre and Ti combinations) means the Ping sounds louder than the competition, but in a non-offensive way. This is a great-looking driver at address and there’s plenty of shelf appeal, which makes it a brilliant option for golfers looking to balance off-centre hit forgiveness with as much speed and power as they can get their hands on.
