VERDICT It’s taken PXG a while to find their mojo in the driver arena (it’s a tougher nut to crack than the premium iron market), but in 2021 they’ve absolutely nailed it. Not only is the 0811 X+ a brilliant looking driver, it absolutely delivered for our test pro. With the heaviest 12.5g sole weight in the back port (the most forgiving set up), the 0811 X+ was just one yard back (less than 0.5%) from our longest forgiving driver (traditional), while also managing to feel friendly and forgiving. In 2021, gone are the high driver price tags, the Proto X is a lot of driver for less than most of the competition. Golfers can buy direct from the PXG website, too. And if you need a deal clincher, thanks to sole weights ranging from 2.5–20g, you can pick a shaft length anywhere between 44 and 46ins.
