VERDICT The ST-X blows the draw driver category wide open, as it’s nothing like what we expect of a traditional draw model. It’s so different that Mizuno reckon staff players actually prefer this head shape to the ST-Z. The X sits beautifully and, thanks to some tweaking over the previous model, the impact sound is brilliant. Its real beauty is the option to set it up with either a 4g or 11g sole weight. It means it can be a great draw option for mid- and higher-speed players, and for anyone who struggles for speed, it’s a great lightweight option with the ability to sling shots from right to left. The ST-X performs brilliantly outside of the draw category and needs to be tried before being blindly dismissed as ‘just another draw driver’.
