VERDICT Thanks to a 17g sliding back weight, adjustable lie angle and plenty of shaft options, the Max can be set up as a brilliant draw and lightweight model as well as being super forgiving. Its elongated head is nicer than the Mavrik Max, Callaway’s top performing draw model in 2020. But what really stands out this year is the excellent array of shaft options. Simon’s best performance came from the new 40g Project X Cypher, only discovered after some serious experimentation and reinforcing the importance of a proper fitting for any new driver. At lower speeds, carry distance differences are smaller, so personal preference and the feel at address will play a role in which driver you play in 2021. Opt for the Epic Max and you won’t be disappointed.
