We don’t know how Callaway get away with the micro-protrusions on the face of the Jaws wedges; the idea pushes the rules to the absolute limit. Run an index finger over them and you get an instant feel for how they can’t not help impart spin at impact. As a result, it’s little surprise the Jaws MD5 very comfortably placed within our five spinniest wedges of 2021. We’re particularly fussy when it comes to wedge head shapes and, in our opinion at least, the MD5’S are much nicer than their predecessors, the very heavily rounded MD4S. Being a tour-style wedge, the MD5S do have a very sharp leading edge, which can be good for nipping shots from tight lies, but it also means you need to be a precise and accurate ball striker, especially on damp turf or sand, to get the best from them. In the wrong hands, sharp edges increase the likelihood of heavy and fat shots. For this reason, we suggest the MD5 will be at home in the hands of aboveaverage golfers.
