Adidas Stan Smith Golf

A Classic Goes From Tennis Court To Golf Course

-

The Adidas Stan Smith is as iconic as a sneaker gets. Originally a tennis shoe worn by Stan smith back in the early 70’s, it has transcended sport and the unmistakable Stan Smith silhouette is as much a part of streetwear style as its namesake is a part of the shoe.

In announcing a redefinition of versatile golf performance footwear, the Stan Smith Golf stepped onto a golf course for the first time on the feet of Dustin Johnson at The Masters this April. The bold green colour of that limited edition was a nod to the green details featured at the tongue and heel of the original shoe. Updating the classic style to make sure it aligns with their mission to end plastic waste, Adidas replaced the leather uppers with soft and breathable high performance recycled materials to promote its Primegreen initiative.

“The Stan Smith silhouette is known throughout the world for being so versatile from a fashion standpoint, so we’re excited to give golfers that same style and versatility for when they head out to the course, now in a more sustainable way.”

The iconic first design that was introduced to the world more than 50 years ago and has transcended fashion for generations, is now the more sustainable Stan Smith Golf in the unmistakable white and green colourway so that golfers everywhere can bring the classic and versatile look to the course.

The golf version of the Stan Smith is waterproof (one-year warranty) to help keep golfers dry both on and off the course. For added traction in all course conditions to go along with their style, the rubber spikeless outsole features lugs inspired by the shoe’s original sole design. The midsole features cushioning in targeted areas for comfort where golfers need it most. The sole’s green colour symbolises adidas’ sustainability mission, and as an ode to the traditions of the past, the included removable white kiltie gives players another way to wear their shoes and give off some added flair for their round. On the shoe’s tongue, Stan Smith himself is now shown wearing a golf cap.

“When we were talking about bringing this shoe into golf, the original white and green colorway was a must-have as part of our planning,” said Masun Denison, global footwear director, adidas Golf. “The Stan Smith silhouette is known throughout the world for being so versatile from a fashion standpoint, so we’re excited to give golfers that same style and versatility for when they head out to the course, now in a more sustainable way.”
