Most major golf brands have five, six or even seven irons in their line-ups. Some are brand new, others have been carried over from previous ranges, but they are all aimed at very specific target golfers. There’s been a massive influx of new forged iron models over the last 12 months, but iron choices still range from sublime muscleback­s to hollow heads, cavity backs and super forgiving hybrid-style irons.

So with 2021’s newest models in the shops, the time felt right to show how each major brand’s whole iron range compares. Thanks to pandemic-related delays we couldn’t hit Callaway’s Apex TCB, Srixon’s ZX4, and PXG’S three new Gen4 models (we’ll review those later in the year). But apart from this handful of models, we’ve included every major new iron on the market, tested by our consistent pro on a launch monitor. We reveal how whole families of irons compare, and we’ve given each model a forgivenes­s rating and a handicap guide to spell out simply which players should be considerin­g each model and, more importantl­y, why…
