#utopian visions
THERE IS SO much in this June issue of #legend it’s almost impossible to contain. Opening with our cover star Rita Ora, one of Britain’s leading celebrities, we delve into the deep, pondering life’s big questions and discussing spirit animals, new music and sexuality, all over a pizza . We meet the second man to walk on the moon, Buzz Aldrin, who is responsible for a series of firsts, and we go to the Maldives with Jimmy Choo and a clique of stylistas. We obsess over Kiko Mizuhara making her Marc for Mr Jacobs’ eyewear collection and we shoot with eternally youthful Adrianne Ho. And that’s just for starters.
We meet fashion’s man-of-the-moment Virgil Abloh, on the eve of his new Off-White store opening in Central, Hong Kong. Architect, DJ, furniture maker, fashion designer and Kanye West collaborator, Abloh’s hit the commercial and cultural sweet spot by mashing-up “streetwear” motifs with luxurious skeins and stealing the initiative from labels big and small.
We shine a spotlight on sustainability, too. If sustainable clothing is ever to become high fashion, then the mindsets of both companies and consumers must change first. We hear from those at the frontlines of the debate.
With Father’s Day in the offing – see our #tagadad shoot (page 60) – this issue promotes some remarkably strong men and the values they espouse. William Lauder, vice-president of Estée Lauder, tells us how the skincare giant stays relevant in the neck-breaking speed of today’s market and the benefits of its philanthropic endeavours. Edoardo Caovilla, who runs his grandfather’s shoe business in Venice, takes a more recreational approach to retail, while Hamdi Chatti, vice-president of Louis Vuitton watches, highlights the window of opportunity the house can push in matters pertaining to Swiss watchmaking design.
To all the dads, and the values they teach us, Happy Father’s Day.
