INDULGE IN THE EXTRAORDINARY

- Terrie V. Gutierrez DEPUTY EDITOR

What’s your idea of luxury? We thought about this question many times when we were putting together this issue. For many people, it simply means that something is expensive – and there’s nothing wrong with that. Luxurious things tend to be expensive things. But we realise that it goes beyond the monetary. Luxury is all about being able to do what you want, when you want it, how you want it.

Thus, indulging in flights of fancy, as the Embraer team did in designing their beautifully whimsical conceptual interiors or designing a hypercar that is both beautiful and fast are luxurious activities. So is retiring to a quiet retreat in Japan or a blinged out fantasy in New York someone’s idea of luxury. But then, so is having a good night’s sleep without worrying about getting up early in the morning, also a luxury, especially in our frenetic sleep-deprived world. Whatever your definition of it is, we dare you to take it in both hands and live it – whether it’s ziplining onto your resort’s reception area, sailing to exotic beaches or meandering down one of Asia’s longest rivers, we dare you to have a sense of adventure, to seek out the unusual, to indulge in the extraordinary.

Live life well.
