NO COMPROMISE
A list of the Bombardier Global 7500's industry-firsts
Today’s globetrotters desire a lot from their business jets; they put a premium on time, which means that their ideal jet needs to travel both fast and far (see “Bragging Rights”, pp40-43). Naturally, their ideal business jet must also be safe, reliable, comfortable, cost-efficient, and capable of operating at regional airports that are closer to passengers’ origin and destination.
Bombardier recently debuted what globetrotting executives might consider to be the ultimate business jet by virtue of its extraordinary, no-compromise, capabilities.
Largest, fastest, and longest mission
First off, there is no denying the size. The flagship of the Bombardier business jets, the Global 7500 is currently the world’s largest and longest range business jet. It recently gave a demonstration of unmatched endurance by flying an astonishing 8,152 nautical miles (plus NBAA IFR reserves) non-stop between Singapore and Tucson in just 16 hours and seven minutes.
Speed is another attribute that business jet owners put a premium on, as it translates into time saved. The Global 7500 does not disappoint, as it is one of the fastest jets in the sky. With a top speed of Mach 0.925, or nearly the speed of sound, the Global 7500 is capable of cruising at altitudes as high as 51,000 feet, bypassing typical commercial aircraft that tend to fly below 40,000 feet and at speeds closer to Mach 0.80.
“Our award-winning, best-in-class Global 7500 aircraft is redefining private aviation and elevating the overall in-flight experience through its speed, range and its exceptional cabin comfort,” said David Coleal, President, Bombardier Aviation.
Four customisable suites
The Bombardier Global 7500 was designed to include four distinct living spaces (“suites”) plus a full-size kitchen and even a dedicated crew suite. Within each suite, Bombardier offers a myriad of customised layouts to suit nearly every mission and taste.
Upon boarding, and prior to the first suite, passengers pass through the full-sized kitchen and dedicated crew suite. While some business jets galleys limit the crew to simply reheating food, the Global 7500’s full kitchen includes dual convention/ microwave ovens, sink and faucet, coffee/ espresso machine and chilled storage such that an onboard chef could prepare real meals for passengers. The entrance also includes a lavatory that can be used by crew
without having to disturb passengers in the aft suites.
The second suite, the conference suite has a six-seat meeting and dining space. In addition, a wall-mounted HDTV can help bring presentations and even web conferences to life.
The third suite is commonly configured as a living room and hence is referred to as the entertainment suite. On one side of the cabin is a three-place berthable divan. On the opposite side of the cabin is an entertainment center fitted out with a 40inch 4K television paired with high-fidelity speakers for a fully immersive experience.
Last, but certainly not least, is the fourth suite – the one that epitomises the experience of flying private – the private suite. Various bed configurations are possible ranging from a twin-sized bed with Nuage bedside chair to a full double bed. Naturally, the bedroom has an en suite, complete with a private lavatory, vanity and even a refreshing shower. The baggage compartment is also accessible from the private suite, which is another example of how passengers do not need to compromise by limiting their access to belongings that were in the cabin at the start of the flight.
Best seats in the house
The Global 7500’s club suite features club chairs in a typical two-by-two layout of its
revolutionary and award-winning Nuage seats, which offers three unique capabilities including deep recline, a floating base for fluid movement, and a tilting headrest. The Nuage seating collection recently won the 2019 International Yacht & Aviation Award for Seating Design.
Leading lighting system
To fight fatigue associated with longdistance travel, the Global 7500 features a number of cabin environment enhancements. One hundred percent fresh air and turbo heat/turbo cool features ensure optimal cabin air quality and temperature control. Just as importantly, the cabin pressure is kept to a low altitude so that there is more oxygen in the air resulting in greater alertness. Moreover, based on passenger preferences, each suite can be quickly heated or cooled, as required.
Bombardier’s nice Touch cabin management system (CMS) provides passengers with an unparalleled level of control over their environment. Passengers can customise their suite through a number of access points including the Bombardier Touch dial. This intuitive input is like a dimmer switch to control many functions such as lighting, temperature, and sound. For the more tech-minded passengers, suite controllers as well as the nice Touch app for one’s tablet or smart phone provide an even greater degree of customisation from throughout the aircraft.
Integrated into the nice Touch app is the Soleil lighting system, which is aviation’s first circadian rhythm-based cabin lighting technology, which also includes the Dynamic Daylight Simulation feature to combat jet lag.
“We’re pleased to showcase the innovative Soleil lighting system on the Global 7500 aircraft,” says Peter Likoray, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Bombardier Business Aircraft. “The lighting system helps passengers arrive at their destination feeling more rested and refreshed.”
Up front, pilots keep passengers safe with a state-of-the-art flight deck. The fly-by-wire system provides envelope protection to enhance safety. As an example, the system will proactively protect against stalls, excessive bank angles, and other nonprescribed flight inputs.
Pilots have maximum situational awareness through four large displays and even a head-up display. The head-up display enables pilots to look forward through the cockpit window during takeoff and landing operations while still receiving critical flight details such as airspeed and altitude.
The enhanced vision system provides pilots with an improved view of the aircraft’s surroundings such as during ground operations in foggy conditions. Being able to see through the fog by use of infrared vision can alert pilots to otherwise invisible obstructions such as another aircraft or an animal that may be lingering on the runway. Synthetic vision is especially helpful in instrument flight rules (IFR) conditions to alert pilots to obstructions such as mountains.
Last, but certainly not least, the Global 7500 allows pilots to stay connected digitally to receive the latest weather charts and other conditions, an especially valuable benefit to have on long flights. With a global support network, even the most frequent of globetrotters are unlikely to find themselves facing downtime in the case of a needed part or service.
“We’ve transformed business aviation with the Global 7500 jet,” said Michel Ouellette, Senior Vice President, Program Management and Engineering, Bombardier Business Aircraft. “With the longest range in the industry, the aircraft can connect more international cities nonstop, opening many destinations to our customers.”
Compromise may be a negotiation strategy that business people use to realise their goals. When it comes to traveling for business, however, globetrotters need not compromise when traveling via the Bombardier Global 7500.
