THREE-HAND TRIUMPH
As the oldest whisky that The Macallan has released to date, The Reach also boasts a distinctly dramatic history. Crafted in the beginning of WWII, it was set aside in 1940 just before the war forced the distillery to close its doors.
The 81Years Old rare single malt whisky has been matured in a single, sherry-seasoned oak cask and was finally bottled in an exquisite hand-blown glass decanter cradled in a bronze sculpture depicting three hands, each representing the distillery workers from 0the 1940s who personally worked on the whisky, Allan Shiach, a one-time chairman of
The Macallan whose grandfather headed the company when the spirit was first consigned to its cask, and the current master whisky maker, Kirsteen Campbell, who carefully selected the 1940 cask used to create The Reach, and decided to share it whisky with the world.
The spirit’s deep auburn hue hints at astonishing depth – offering notes of dark chocolate, sweet cinnamon and aromatic peat, leading on to treacle toffee, cystalised ginger, and charred pineapple before giving way to an intensely rich, sweet and smoky finish, according to Campbell.
Limited to 288 decanters worldwide, RSP is POA.
