Masters of Time X is set to delight guests with a stellar collection of the rarest watches
EVERY YEAR, LEADING luxury travel retailer DFS hosts Masters of Time, the world’s premier retail exhibition of luxury timepieces and jewellery. It’s a two-day extravaganza of the best and the brightest, an opportunity for a self-indulgent shopping spree, a celebration of craftsmanship, innovation and design, and on the occasion of the exhibition’s 10th anniversary this year, it’s a grand affair to trump all previous Masters of Time exhibitions.
The 10th edition, titled Masters of Time X, unites the very best brands in the world of watchmaking with their ambassadors, enthusiasts and collectors for a weekend of exclusive shopping and dialogue. Unlike previous editions, Masters of Time X had its pre-launch in Venice at the iconic T Fondaco dei Tedeschi by DFS store, where the exhibition’s theme of refraction was beautifully interpreted with a digital installation on the pavilion floor of the historical Venetian building, showcasing the way light played on different surfaces of precious metal and gemstones. The one-of-a-kind experience was followed by a feast, where VIP guests and local celebrities dined from a special menu created by acclaimed chef Massimiliano Alajmo (of three-Michelin-starred Le Calandre) at
T Fondaco dei Tedeschi by DFS’s restaurant Amo. The collection also traveled to Chengdu and Beijing in October, accompanied by immersive dinners to whet the appetite of VIP clients for DFS.
So what rare watches and exceptional jewellery will guests expect to see in Macau? DFS is well-known for its
exceptional curation and this year, more than 450 rare watches and jewellery masterpieces from 30 top luxury brands will be represented in the meticulous showcase, including Bulgari, Franck Muller, Hublot, IWC, Jaquet Droz, Piaget, Roger Dubuis, Tag Heuer, Ulysse Nardin and Zenith.
Matthew Green, Senior Vice-President, Watches and Jewellery for DFS Group, says the collection is “worthy of this milestone anniversary.” Central to the 10th edition collection is the very desires of DFS’s own customers and to this end, DFS will not only display a selection of limited editions, but has also specifically worked with some brands to create exclusive pieces for DFS and Masters of Time – timepieces Green hopes will “captivate experienced collectors and first-time buyers alike.”
Highlights at Masters of Time X include the Bulgari Octo Tourbillon Sapphire, a modern and bold timepiece that is openworked to offer a window into its mechanisms and technological innovations. The unique octagonal design is inspired by the Basilica of Maxentius, an iconic Bulgari code referencing the brand’s Roman roots, and the timepiece is limited to only 50 pieces in the world.
Another limited-edition timepiece we love is for the ladies – the Piaget Altiplano Rose. Only 18 pieces have been made and the luxury watchmaker combines its elegant Altiplano model with the rose, the queen of flowers and Piaget’s signature emblem. The rose, displaying 80 shimmering petals on a wood marquetry and mother-ofpearl dial, is a miniature work of art on the wrist.
The signature red colour of DFS is brought to life in numerous watch models created exclusively for the company – and the Franck Muller Vanguard Crazy Hours DFS Exclusive is a particularly memorable piece. Apart from the red design around the dial, the number 10 is denoted with the Roman numeral X, an overt nod to the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Masters of Time. The Tag Heuer Carrera Caliber Heuer 02T is also given the special treatment; the automatic chronograph with a flying tourbillon comes with a single baguette-cut ruby at the 10 o’clock hour mark. Over at Ulysse Nardin, its game-changing Freak Vision is given a new look exclusively for DFS. The Freak Vision Red has the same super-light silicium balance wheel and thin case design as its predecessors, but the exclusive DFS watch comes with lacquered red bridges and an “X” at 10 o’clock.
Fine jewellery also will be on display, including Bulgari’s Divas’ Dream set, Tiffany’s Paper Flowers set, Piaget’s
Sunny Side of Life Golden Spirit set, Boucheron’s Plume de Paon and Hopi set, and Tasaki’s Ritz Paris Par Tasaki Elégance necklace.
The Masters of Time X collection will be showcased during a gala weekend at T Galleria by DFS in Macau’s Shoppes at Four Seasons from December 7 to 9, 2018. The collection will be available for viewing and purchase in
Macau from December 7 until February 28, 2019.
