SALCEDO AUCTIONS ends a busy February by opening the auction season with yet another successful sale and back-to-back exhibitions by Luis Romero and Ricky Ambagan
THE SIGHTS OF SUCCESS
With a well-curated selection of nearly 300 paintings, prints, jewelry, decorative art, and collectibles, Gavel&Block by Salcedo Auctions opened the auction season with the ‘art+design’ sale that was held last February 8, 2020 at the Salcedo Auctions headquarters at NEX Tower, 6786 Ayala Avenue, Makati City. The auction witnessed an emerging demand for skilled abstract artists such as Jaime Roque and Norberto Carating, with other decorative pieces gaining much-deserved attention as well. Roque’s A Pair of Abstract Works was sold for Php 116,800 (including buyer’s premium and VAT) while Carating’s Untitled work sold for Php 350,400. Norberto is well-known in art circles for his metallic abstractions and is multi-awarded—earning accolades at the Thirteen Artists Awards, Philippine Art Awards, and the Annual Competition and Exhibition by the Art Association of the Philippines. The sale was the first time his work was offered at Salcedo Auctions with more exciting pieces and artists yet to come.
TWOFOLD MAGNIFICENCE
Art Fair Philippines recently held its highly anticipated exhibition of fine art pieces at The Link, Ayala Center, Makati City. Salcedo Auctions Private View presented an exquisite collection of two prolific artists—Luis Romero and Ricky Ambagan. The shift in approach towards a shared theme, from the modernist framework of the 60s to the contemporary approach of today is evident in the two artists’ exhibited pieces. Presenting the most recent iterations of a series Romero started nearly four decades ago, his piece explores the aesthetic of linear design in space. With Ambagan, words like ‘ outside,’ ‘inside,’ ‘ empty,’ ‘full,’ ‘boundary,’ ‘ maze,’ ‘ path,’ ‘open,’ ‘ close, ‘ and ‘haiku’ inform his pieces. These words revolve around the idea of space, shaping the imagery that finds its way onto the canvas. The pair of shows deliver a unique experience that invite discourse on space and contemporaneity to life. Well-received and duly praised by the fair’s guests and attendees.. ▪
