FROM BASIC TO VIBRANTLY BOLD

Four exciting ways to express yourself and elevate your everyday makeup look

Now that summer is fast approaching, are you looking for new ways to express yourself and embrace a bit of drama—looks-wise, that is? There’s no better way to do it than through the most exciting makeup trends for 2020. Gone are the days when neon-colored liners were daunting and scary. Now is the best time to throw caution to the wind and invest in this year’s coveted multicolored palettes.

To this end, we’ve scoured the runways of New York Fashion Week, checked out the musthave beauty brands and asked top makeup artist John Pagaduan to help cherry-pick some of the latest makeup looks and products that can take you from basic to vibrantly bold.

To help you create that fresh and exciting summer look, here are the top 4 makeup trends from the runways plus the makeup must-haves you’ll need to achieve the different looks:

SKIN IS IN

Yes, sheer, dewy skin is definitely in. Before you pile on those vivid hues, your canvas must be close to perfect. Veer away from thick, powdery bases and go for a hydrated and nourished look. Get that radiant glow but make sure you avoid a metallic look. “As much as you want to create a bold new look, less is more when it comes to skin. Now’s the time to go for a sheer, natural-looking finish,” shared Pagaduan.

COLORFUL EYELINERS

Time to upgrade those winged-black liners to their 2020 version. Bold eyes are the norm this year but this time around, vibrantly colored liners are a must. According to Pagaduan, “Colored liners are going to be huge this 2020. It’s a great way to emphasize the eyes and have fun with different hues. So, don’t shy away from those magentas, violets, and even the brightest orange hues to line those peepers.”

BOLD BLUSH

That sun-kissed glow is a mainstay but if you want to create a bit more impact, don’t hesitate to brush on more blush than usual. Blush can make anyone look fresh and rested, and is used quite subtly or as an accent. But with the rise of a 70’s era technique called Draping, blush is now being worn on the cheeks, temples, and even the eyelids for a mask-like look. You can dial the brightness and color up and down, but placement is key across the cheeks and temples.

THOSE BABY BLUES

Put those earth-toned eyeshadows to rest. Although taupe, nude, and other warm hues will always be around, make your eyes pop with Pantone’s Color of the Year, Classic Blue. And if this shade is just not your thing, go for soft powdery blues or even deep sapphire tones.
