Senator Risa Hontiveros reflects on musical theater, life in public service, and getting her voice heard

In the 20 months since we relaunched Lifestyle Asia, our driving force has been two things: purpose and relevance. These two ideals have guided us well — we are thriving, and we can confidently claim that print is still very much alive. Lifestyle Asia has shaken the industry; we’ve gone so far and achieved many milestones. And for this, I'm very grateful for the overwhelming support of our President and CEO, Archie Carrasco, Suki Salvador, our sales team, digital team, photographers; and of course, the amazing LA team — Pipo, Sara, Marc, Izzie, Kei, Aly, Faith and Rochelle and all of our contributors. Lifestyle Asia has not been unscathed by the pandemic, but we will not allow it to deter us from our vision. We will strive to forge on and continue with our evolution, which all of you will soon see. We will continue this track and positively impact society. Despite everything that's going on in the world, we will remain steadfast in redefining luxury. Our goal is to enrich the lives of others and work towards a meaningful life, inspiring people with our authentic stories. More importantly, we will further elevate Lifestyle Asia by sending more powerful messages, point-of-views, covers that are symbolic and iconic like our September theme of ‘Have Courage’.

In October, we declare that ‘The Future is Female’, elevating Lifestyle Asia further towards being more meaningful and iconic. We are featuring women who are on top of their game and empowered to take control of their future and achieve their vision. Our cover personalities Margarita Fores and Victoria Belo both have made a name for themselves not only here in the Philippines but around the world. They have paved the way and lead their industries against all odds and circumstances. Their gender did not matter but only their will, determination, and vision.

Our cover personalities are joined by equally empowered and successful women who are leading their enterprises – Cris Albert, Feli Atienza, Suzette Ayson, Roxanne Farillas, Connie Haw, Florence Ko, and Pinky Tobiano. These beautiful women are defined by their intelligence, confidence, hard work, faith, limitless dreams, and work ethics. Their incredible stories are truly inspiring amidst all the obstacles that they had to endure.

These women stand up for all women. Cheers to these strong women. There is no limit to what women can achieve. This issue is not entirely about feminism or making women strong but about changing how the world perceives that strength in women.
