OMEGA commemorates the year they were awarded the "Silver Snoopy Award" NASA with a timepiece celebrating that incredible achievement

OMEGA and the National Aeronautics and Space Aviation (NASA) have had a long and fruitful partnership, which reached its zenith during the Speedmaster’s vital support during the Apollo 13 rescue. In 1970, NASA conveyed the coveted “Silver Snoopy Award” from the astronauts to OMEGA, in recognition of the brand’s unique contributions to space exploration.

Exactly 50 years later, a timepiece has been created commemorating that honor. An impeccable combination of animation with watchmaking art, OMEGA’s Snoopy tribute has introduced the OMEGA Speedmaster to a heightened realm of design.

Snoopy plays a highlighted role within the watch. First appearing as an embossed silver medallion on the blue subdial at 9 o'clock, he is shown wearing his famous spacesuit, a replica of the silver pin given by NASA to OMEGA.

The dial is also silver and laser-engraved with Ag925 and includes two more blue subdials along with blue PVD angle-shaped hour markers and hands.

On the caseback, Snoopy has gone into orbit, owing to the animated black and white Command and Service Module (CSM) on a magical hand. When the chronograph seconds hand is ticking, Snoopy takes a trip around the far side of the moon, just like the Apollo 13 crew, with the lunar surface depicted on the sapphire crystal using a unique micro-structured metallization.

In the distance, a vision of Earth is included. This Earth disk rotates once per minute, synced with the watch's small seconds hand, and symbolizes the precise rotation of the Earth. Included within the black universe is the iconic quote, "Eyes on the Stars”

All caseback engravings are kept in the correct, upright position, thanks to the NAIAD LOCK. This includes the date in 1970 that OMEGA received the award as well as a tribute to the Apollo 13 mission that same year.

With superb attention to detail, the blue nylon strap matches the other blue elements of the watch, and also features the trajectory of the mission embossed on the lining. The strap is attached to a 42 mm case in stainless steel, inspired by the 4th generation Speedmaster style (the first watch worn on the moon in 1969). The tachymeter scale, with another iconic quote “Dot over Ninety”, is shown in white enamel on a blue ceramic [ZrO2] bezel ring.

In an exquisite display of horologic skill, the Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary watch is driven by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. This industryrenewing movement has taken the revered Moonwatch calibre to extreme standards of excellence, featuring antimagnetic innovation, as well as Master Chronometer certification from the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).

The piece includes OMEGA's full 5-year warranty, and will not be a limited production. Those who purchase will receive the watch, with its own Apollo 13 presentation box with microfiber cleaning cloth, a brochure, and a magnifying glass to see the details even better.

OMEGA is available at 6750 Retail Arcade, Greenbelt 5 Mall, The Podium, Shangri-La Plaza, L’Atelier The Fort and Lucerne Solaire Sky
