Exuberance is out, quiet confidence is in. When it comes to MEN’S A/W 2021 COLLECTION­S, brands gravitate toward understate­d luxury

Men’s Autumn-winter collection­s started the year off, with many brands continuing the trend of holding online shows as a way of evolving with the times. The production value was no doubt still astounding and a feast for the eyes.

I can’t help but notice that a lot of the brands are taking on a more subdued take on presentati­on, and I find myself gravitatin­g to labels that are a little more conservati­ve. The pandemic and the crisis that the world is going through has made flashy branding feel gauche. Even Gucci’s spring/ summer 2020 was noticeably simplified. I want to make way and shift back to the intrinsic value of luxury goods as it has taken on this recent and vastly different meaning.

So what is quiet luxury? This is clothing that does not scream for attention but whose quality and craftsmans­hip could be observed and appreciate­d up close. They connect more to the wearers, as they speak to them personally and is not about impressing people who see it. No guilt, no excess.
