For Edition No. 6, The Macallan pays homage to a legendary river. With every edition, the Scottish whisky distillery explores the many facets of its rich 200-year-old history. For this latest iteration, which is the last in the popular series, the tribute is for the River Spey. This body of water is significant for the brand since its distillery is found at the banks of the Spey. Known for its Atlantic salmon, the river is filled with rushing fresh water and backdropped by a majestic landscape. The whisky brand has dedicated itself to the preservation of this tributary.

“A day on the River Spey is supremely special,” shares Robert Mitchell, The Macallan Ghillie. “You feel that you are escaping from everything and truly connecting with nature and with our Distillery completing this stunning landscape, there is no other place in the world capable of drawing so many wonders together.” He says that the distillery are proud custodians of the oneand-three-quarter mile stretch. They consider themselves as advocates “for the sustainability of the wildlife in and around it and so all fishing at The Macallan is catch and release.”

Capturing the river’s essence into a bottle was tasked to whisky maker Steven Bremner. Using a combination of European and American oak sherry seasoned casks, Bremner emulates the river’s energy with aromas of fresh fruits and ginger with a softening sweetness of vanilla and toffee. Its brass hue finishes with long fruitiness with some spice which turns to creamy chocolate with toasted oak.

“This complex single malt provides the perfect conclusion to the Edition Series as there is so much to discover in this whisky,” Bremmer adds. “The natural color of antique brass derived from The Macallan’s exceptional oak casks indicates the richness of flavor that awaits and there is a structure and depth that is uncovered more and more over time.”

Edition No. 6 also honors the River Spey with a charitable partnership with The Atlantic Salmon Trust. This team up aids in the conservation of at-risk fish whose populations have been in decline. The trust assures the healthy growth of salmon and trout that call the River Spey home. THE MACALLAN EDITION NO.6 s available for sale at RRSP of P9,500.
