HEAR HER ROAR

Panthère de Cartier proves to be a powerful symbol of style with its delicate craftsmanship

-

Inspiration comes in many forms–a person, a place, or even an animal of some kind. For Jeanne Toussaint, Creative Director of Cartier in the 1940s, it was the mighty panther that she considered as her muse. She was the very first to adopt the panther as her signature, and it led to the creation of the sculptural panther that would then become the luxury brand’s emblem. Now, it’s making a habitat out of Cartier’s latest bag as a black speckled clasp sitting majestically along its flap.

A PEEK BEHIND THE CURTAINS

While we try to understand the intricate details of the bags we purchase, it’s still a different conversation when other factors such as the location and team of artists that made these purses come to life are in the spotlight. The Panthère de Cartier was designed in the studio led by Artistic Director Martin Yuson. Located at the Cartier International Headquarters in Paris, France, this studio is nothing short of a center of inspired and refined expression and creativity.

Yuson relied on the incomparable jewelry expertise of Cartier’s workshops and the choice of the bag’s leather, which make up two criteria of excellence. The Panthère’s C-shaped buckle is both vibrant and powerful as it gives life and movement to the animal with its black lacquer spots that come in different sizes. Hand-polished to accentuate its luminosity, the buckle truly restores the panther’s vitality. Meanwhile, the leather with a captivating wavy grained texture and sheen came from only the highest quality batches of calf leather. To ensure it stays intact and scratch-resistant, a fixing spray is applied as it also provides a subtle glossy effect.

THE NEW QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE

It’s no secret that the Panthère de Cartier’s symbolic buckle is the immediate center of attention. In one look, it easily asserts its femininity and sophistication with a bangle featuring a streamlined and graphic panther head. However, it’s not only the panther that makes this bag take the winning crown. Its minimalist approach that consists of a structured shape, handles, and gussets make the Panthère de Cartier reign supreme. It also comes in two looks and sizes, a variety of colors, and can even be personalized by hot-stamp in gold foil or engravement.
