Experiencing a new Darna only comes once or twice in a lifetime, so when the team found out that she was to cover our December issue, all hands were on deck. The titular role requires not only strength but a kind of mental fortitude, so to prepare for her role Jane De Leon underwent martial arts training six times a week—on top of other workouts, plus acting classes. It came to no surprise that she was feeling under the weather on our shoot day.
But just like the character she is soon to become, she easily put aside her tiredness and became a beautiful goddess in front of the camera. Clad in couture pieces in different shades of the sun, Jane knew her best angles as she posed inside a Klimt-inspired set. The golden background proved to be perfect for her porcelain skin and expressive natural beauty. Adding to the shine were the iconic jewelry pieces from Cartier, like the diamond-studded Juste un Clou and the new Clash de Cartier that added a touch of cool attitude to her classic ensembles.
Jane powered through every shot and soon enough we had our cover. Choosing who becomes the new Darna is very much a crucial process. Whoever is chosen has the huge weight to honor not only the character but the women who were Darna before her. Through the shoot, we not only saw a glimpse of the new Darna but we also saw Jane.
