BEAUTY TALKS

-

HOW DID YOU BEGIN AS A MAKEUP ARTIST?

It was unexpected. I studied art and worked at a movie studio for the set and decorations. That’s when I first saw how a professional makeup team worked so I wanted to try it out. They taught me everything about makeup, starting from the most difficult— changing the face into a monster or an animal, fake injuries... you name it! Soon after that, I became a freelancer.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO WORKING WITH SISLEY?

15 years ago, I met someone from Sisley in Paris. I already knew of the brand for skincare, but not really for makeup, since the collection was very small. They proposed for me not only to join the brand, but to help with the development of the makeup. I like that Sisley promotes makeup and treatment together, for the benefit of the woman. It is botanical makeup. I’ve worked with many models who have given me good feedback after using their products.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU WHEN CREATING LOOKS?

The woman, of course. Ask the same question to a fashion designer or perfumer and they would also have the same answer. Right now, there are so many different kinds of women. Long ago, the style was rather limited. Today, she can decide what kind of woman she wants to be. I want to understand every type of woman.

WHAT IS YOUR BEAUTY PHILOSOPHY?

It is true that you can decide which woman you want to be, but at the same time, don’t try to change your profile. Accept and explore your own beauty potential instead of trying to change your face too much.

WHAT ADVICE

WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO WANTED TO BECOME A MAKEUP ARTIST?

Often times, the makeup artist likes to do makeup on the model or a pretty girl. But as I train more and more, the most meaningful experience is meeting a woman with a rather dramatic problem. Long time ago, I met a woman who had a big scar from an accident. She stopped using makeup because she thinks, ‘It’s to late for me, I cannot be beautiful.’ I spent more time with her and we found a way to change her mind. It’s nice to show women that you shouldn’t stop taking care of yourself. It always gives a deeper meaning to your profession.

“EVERY WOMAN HAS BEAUTY POTENTIAL; IT IS UP TO THE MAKEUP ARTIST TO SHOW HER THAT, ESPECIALLY IF SHE HAS GIVEN UP ON TAKING ” CARE OF HERSELF

WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU?

Oh my! Every year is a new challenge, even after 15 years with Sisley. When you travel the world to educate others, there is no routine. This is also something that means a lot to me. On Facebook or Instagram, so many women thank me and tell me how much of a difference they see after using our products. When you get this kind of feedback, you find the energy year after year to continue. That’s enough motivation for me.
