SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

Just as I write this article news broke that another fashion retail big wig is soon closing all their stores around the world. Opening Ceremony’s co-founders Carol Lim and Humberto Leon released a statement today saying “Ultimately, in this time of immense change in the way that people shop, we still believe in the power of passionate and unique retail. But we also believe in the necessity for change, reflection and an opportunity to refresh. This is a moment of transition for Opening Ceremony and, together with our new partners, we are taking the chance to step back and evaluate the future of our Opening Ceremony retail experience.” This has been a trend in the world of retail as shopping habits evolved quite immensely in the past years. Online is now the threshold of sales and brands that have more sustainable practices as well as second-hand buying become the path of 21st century shopper. Now, the question is, what does it take to survive today’s fashion landscape. We try to answer these and more in our February 2020 survival issue.

This month’s flag bearer is none other than a woman who knows a lot about surviving the highs and lows of life and still remaining resilient and just as cool in the process, Nadine Lustre. Many have judged her from her fashion choices to her progressive values as she brings to light sensitive issues of mental health and feminist point of views. Through it all she remains steadfast in living her life on her own terms. Rio fires up as Nadine embraces her beautiful body in skinbaring looks with an unapologetic attitude. On Dark Matters we highlight the lasting power of classic style and classic pieces that will forever be in your wardrobes.
